The two long-term lines matter most to device makers: LTSC 2019 runs until early 2029 and LTSC 2021 until early 2032, with quality-only updates and no forced feature updates. SAC and Pro follow the faster, feature-updated cadence and have already reached end of support.

Notes

  1. Cortana is not included in the LTSC / LTSB line. The Cortana standalone app has been discontinued since 2023, so it is no longer serviced on Pro or SAC either.
  2. DirectAccess is an enterprise-edition feature. Microsoft recommends Always On VPN for new deployments; not available in Pro.
  3. Windows To Go was removed starting with Windows 10 version 2004, so SAC (22H2) and LTSC 2021 (21H2) no longer include it. LTSB 2016 and LTSC 2019 still ship it.
  4. Shared PC mode was introduced with Windows 10 1703; it is not included in LTSB 2016 (1607).
  5. Device Encryption requires hardware that supports InstantGo or passes the Device Encryption HCK test.
  6. WIP is managed through MDM on Pro. Microsoft deprecated WIP in July 2022; it keeps working on supported releases, but Microsoft recommends Microsoft Purview for new deployments.
  7. Credential Guard / Device Guard require UEFI 2.3.1 or newer, virtualization extensions (Intel VT-x / AMD-V with SLAT), an x64 build, IOMMU (VT-d / AMD-Vi), and BIOS lock. TPM 2.0 is recommended for Device Health Attestation.
  8. AppLocker policies can be deployed by Group Policy on Enterprise / Server only; from Windows 10 2004 (including Pro) policies can also be deployed through MDM.
  9. UWF, Keyboard Filter, Shell Launcher, Embedded Logon and Embedded Boot Experience are Windows 10 IoT Enterprise exclusive lockdown features. They are not available in Pro (or the non-IoT Enterprise edition).
  10. Soft Real-Time is exclusive to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, available since 21H2 (SAC) and LTSC 2021.
  11. Removable Packages are exclusive to Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC, available since LTSC 2021, and are used to reduce the OS storage footprint.
  12. Microsoft Edge (Chromium) ships in-box since LTSC 2021 and supports kiosk mode. LTSB 2016 and LTSC 2019 do not include Edge (IE11 only).
  13. Windows Update for Business does not apply to any LTSC / LTSB release. Long-term servicing releases should be updated through WSUS or Configuration Manager.
